The Elim Pentecostal Church has had a phenomenal impact on the UK. This complete and official history, written in two volumes, chronicles its story from 1915 to the present day.

This first volume covers the years 1915-1940. Introducing Elim’s founder, George Jeffreys, and other prominent leaders, it explores their roots in the Asuza Street and Welsh revivals, and the Sunderland and Keswick conventions. The Movement’s humble beginnings and rapid, evangelistic spread across the UK are charted, along with the accompanying demonstrations of the Spirit’s power that marked it out.

Sensitive consideration is also given to the painful division that resulted in Jeffreys leaving Elim in 1940 to establish another denomination. This split, together with the outbreak of World War Two, had a devastating impact but, as the second volume records, Elim’s work was far from done.

  • At last someone has undertaken the task of writing a comprehensive history of the Elim Pentecostal Church in the UK, and there is no better person to do it than the movement’s official historian, Maldwyn Jones. In this informative book, Jones demonstrates a depth of personal knowledge on Elim, interacts with numerous primary sources and engages with existing historical works on Elim. He brings to life the denomination’s many pioneers who sacrificially served God and proclaimed the full gospel message in word and deed. Although the book is primarily written for members of Elim churches, it also has plenty of material that will be of value to scholars of Pentecostalism. I very much look forward to reading the second of this two-volume history of Elim.

  • The history of Elim has never been published before. In this book, and with detail and passion, Maldwyn Jones, Elim’s official historian, tells us the story and conveys the excitement and the miracles – as well as the troubles – that attended those formative years. This is a book you will want to read.

  • Maldwyn has written the best kind of historical survey, covering the origins and early years of the Elim Pentecostal Churches. It is considered, thorough and accessible for all aspects of Elim’s early years. He also manages to help us catch a glimpse of the hand of God at work in human history.

Rev Michael Sherwood, Former Regional Leader and member of the NLT of the Elim Pentecostal Church.
