We are delighted to share that Matt McChlery’s book about living with faith and cancer is now an award-winning one! Standing in the Storm has won the Page Turner Award in the Christian book category. It is one of a number of our books to have won and been shortlisted for awards over the years. As a small publisher, we are always incredibly encouraged to see books recognised in this way, and it is a great acknowledgement for the writers themselves.
Matt’s book is an honest, brave and grounded account of dealing with Stage Four non-Hodgkin lymphoma. During the treatment process, Matt recorded his and his family’s experiences in a blog. This achieved a ‘Finalist’ position in the Premier Digital Awards for the ‘Most Inspiring Leadership Blog’ category, and was the inspiration behind the book. So it is no surprise to see his writing receive this further recognition in the Page Turner Awards!
‘I am so pleased that by sharing my journey with faith and cancer through the pages of Standing in the Storm I am able to help others in similarly dark and difficult times. For this to be recognised by the Page Turner Awards is amazing,’ comments Matt. ‘I am so pleased to have won the “Best Book in the Christian Genre Category” for 2023. I hope this helps the book reach even more readers and impact even more lives.’
Two More Finalists
This year, two other authors were also shortlisted for respected book awards. Helen Parker’s Island Treasure was one of four finalists in the Christian Resources Together Awards Youth and Children’s category. It shines a light on the refugee experience and being a Christian as a young teen.
And Carolyn Donnelly was invited to Dublin for the Carousel Aware Prize for Independent Authors in the non-fiction category. Her book The Giant at My Back is a heartfelt and vulnerable account of caring for her husband after he was diagnosed with mixed dementia. A poignant love story, it has encouraged many travelling the same path, and helped others to understand and offer support.
